I own MANY microphones, some more expensive than this Neuman. However, the TLM 102 may be the best of the bunch for vocals. It is present, musical and super quiet. I have been running it through my Avalon VT-737 and the combination is that elusive sound everyone is looking to capture. Just a totally great microphone.

I have tried so many Microphone, from simple USB condenser microphone from popular and famous microphone brands till best dynamic microphone used by so many radio stations or podcaster etc.

I just use microphone for meeting with my boss and team, as a result of Covid-19 pandemic……like so many people, now, we do work from home.

    My chain is simple

    Microphone —-> mic activator CL-1 ( if needed, for dynamic microphone ) —-> dbx 286s —–> Steinberg UR22C —-> my computer

I was confused , between Neumann TLM 102 or better 103. So, I visit my friends, who has TLM 102 or TLM 103. After listened to those microphones, I decide to choose 102

I believe the choice depends on taste, preference, and i prefer TLM 102 , I think it match to my high voice, tenor ? I guess.

Then I bought this. It is a bit too expensive microphone being used for webinar/zoom only

    But, lets do it

Amazon is always amazing to me. I stay far away….I am in Indonesia, but I am loyal customer to Amazon , may be 20years already…? Since the beginning time of amazon, i believe….

Neumann TLM 102, is far…. Too far away, compared to all my microphone, I just blown away….. Really …it is soooo present…i dont know how to describe…i am not singer/audio guy ? But, Neumann TLM 102 is just so different, so pleasing in my ears, not only my ears…. Even my boss ask me, what system do I use ?

I bought from Amazon because, there is no black model in Indonesia…. There is only satin model. And colour is matter to me…

NB : I always use pop filter/or equivalent cover, to reduce my p p p p plosive mouth

Too much room noise picked up. Wanted more bass. OK though. Found a slightly cheaper mic that was much much better. That mic had better bass and a much tighter cardioid pattern.

Oh man this is the best mic I’ve ever heard or owned. It’s crystal clear. Put it on your credit card and enjoy 🙂
My prized mic collection includes: Audio Technica at2021, Rode nt2a, Shure sm7b, sm57, sm58, Avantone cv12; my Neumann is the best.
I’d also recommend getting the Aston Microphones Halo reflection filter if you don’t have a pro vocal booth, as well as a Universal Audio Apollo twin mkii audio interface if you’re a serious home studio artist. And an iMac to prevent the Windows PC glitches in your DAW/audio. You’re welcome.
I’m off to make some hits!

This entry-level level Neumann is great for many different applications. It gives you a great clean color. If you have an extra couple of hundred, you should go for the 103. It’s more versatile. But for the budget, can’t go wrong with this one. If you’re podcasting or voice acting, the Shure SM7B is probably a better fit for you. That mic is also more versatile. This 102 is pretty specific in its sound. Great for clean vocals, guitar, violins, etc.
