The boom arm arrived as promised, with extra microphone holders and shock mounts that I didn’t know were included! I’m going to be doing some podcasting and home recording and needed a better microphone holding alternative than a free standing microphone stand awkwardly taking up floor space to the side of my desk. I was only interested in the boom arm and was pleasantly surprised to find several additional mic clips/holders and a shock mount attachment that were included! They will become backups for other pieces of equipment that I use in house and while I’m out gigging. If I didn’t already have a specific shock mount for the microphone that I’ll be using with the arm (Blue Spark), any of these attachments would have been very useful! The arm is well constructed and not ‘floppy’ – holds its position well, even without tightening the brackets, which was unexpected, for an arm at this price point. Some inexpensive boom arms require extreme tightening to hold a position and usually end up with the bracket knobs breaking due to overtightening. These bracket handles/knobs feel strong and secure and don’t need to be over-tightened to work well. The clamp is easy to adjust, it is perfect for what I need. Overall, functionally and for the price, this arm is surprisingly well built and I am extremely happy with my purchase! It isn’t as long (in length) or as easy to adjust as a pro arm costing 4-5 times as much, but, for the money, for a small desk setup, it is more than adequate!!

I spent days doing research on these types of boom mic stands. There are literally 100’s of choices between $10 and over $100+ dollars so how do you choose? First and foremost, quality of construction. The metal used, the weight of the springs, the quality of the materials. Pay $10 or $20 bucks, thin metal, weak springs and that is what you get.
Then comes the Pyle PMKSH01. Yes, it is only $20.00 but you actually get good quality. This boom is actually constructed for a traditional microphone, not a usb computer mic given it comes with a pre threaded cable. Traditional condenser mics usually weigh a lot more hence the heavier springs and thicker metal. I use a AudioTechnica 2500 which weighs just under 1 pound. Over time, I have read that the cheap boom springs lose the ability to hold their position. The Pyle springs feel a little “stiff” but that shows it will continue to hold over time. If you stream occasionally and want a great mic boom, this is well worth the $20.00 and the fact that it comes with a shock mount as well puts this top on my list of value, function and durability. 5 stars because it does everything it promises at about ½ the price of similar quality booms.

Pros: inexpensive, sturdy, flexible
Cons: cheap material, included XLR cable is not removable
If you’re looking for a decent microphone stand for your desk, this is a pretty good one. It is very adjustable and can hold up relatively heavy microphones. I am using it with an Audio Technica AT2020 USB and it holds it up with no problems. It comes with an XLR cable mounted into the arm, but it is not removable, so if you’re using a non-XLR mic, you just have to leave the cable there. It’s not a big deal, but it can be unsightly. The cable doesn’t come out easily, so if you want to remove it, then you probably have to cut the connector to yank it out.
It has bolts to adjust tightness of the joints, so if it ever becomes loose, theoretically you can just tighten it up again. For $20, this is a pretty good bargain and definitely a good alternative for people who don’t want to drop $100 on a Rode.

This is an excellent desk mount for the price (approx $21 US for the 2.6 ft length), and is well supplied with accessories. Just make sure you get the length you need. This review is for the 2.6 ft length, which may be a little short if you have a wide working desk and need to mount from the side. I’ve included some detailed dimensions below. For reference, the vocal spot on my desk is 26-27 inches in from the side. The 2.6 ft arm makes it just far enough in, allowing a slight off-axis angle to my mic to reduce pops – though I also purchased a separate mountable pop screen.
The clamp for mounting is very sturdy and feels very secure. The arm articulates very well with enough stiffness to stay in the position you need it without feeling like you will break off the clamp. There is a knob to tighten the swivel pin on the desk clamp, plus a knob to tighten the center bend between the two arm sections, and a third to tighten the mic adapter mounting pin. This provides excellent range of articulation. The XLR cable included with the arm is threaded through the arm, but can be adjusted to limit excess cable at the mic end. It is quite long enough to go around the back of my desk and come back through to plug into the front of my audio interface (also on my desk), so no extension was necessary in my setup.
There are 3 separate mic adapters provided, along with 2 mounting adapters to attach the mic adapter to the mounting pin at the end of the arm. Both mounting adapters are the same size and fit the standard size mic adapter threads. The only ding I would typically put here is that the 2 mounting adapters and 2 of the 3 mic adapters use plastic threads – typically worth pulling a star on this type of gear, but given the price and number of accessories, I couldn’t pull a star. The adapters with plastic threads are the quick-release adapter, which has a solid grip on an SM58, and what looks like a Samson adapter, which also fits both the SM58 and SM57 quite well. The Samson-looking adapter uses a softer plastic to hold the mic, so you get get the mics in and out more easily than with the hard plastic adapters that come with Shure mics. The third adapter is the suspension mic adapter which has brass threads, and is made for larger broadcast-style mics like the Electro Voice RE20. The minimum mic body diameter for the suspension adapter is slightly over 1.5 inches, so you can’t use pencil (SM81) or typical ball-style mics like SM58’s in this adapter. I don’t have an RE20 (yet), so I can’t confirm if it would fit this adapter. One small bonus; all three adapters have a knob to hand-tighten the mic angle on the adapter, so you really get full control of your mic placement. Typical adapters usually require a coin or screwdriver to control the tilt-tension on the adapter.
The bottom section of the arm measures 14.5 inches from the end of the desk clamp pin. The second section measures 13.5 inches from the center pivot. The mic adapter mounting pin adds about another 1.5 inches to the bottom of the mic adapter, in case you need that extra distance, but this pin also can be adjusted to any angle to facilitate virtually any mic angle you prefer. The center pivot and mounting pin each have a plastic tightening knob so you can secure this exactly where you need it. Each section of the arm has 2 springs maintaining tension, so this mic arm is very stable.
Be aware this is not meant to be an isolation arm, so desk vibration can be transmitted up the arm to the mic, especially when the impacts are closer to the actual desk clamp. You can reduce this noise if you use an aggressive high-pass filter, but it won’t be eliminated. That means you’ll need to use the suspension adapter, along with a mic that fits it, if you want to isolate your feed from any desk vibrations. I didn’t remove any stars for that because you’re not going to find an isolation desk clamp for this price, and I wasn’t expecting this to be one. Overall, this is a great solution for a home recording setup at a very reasonable price.

This is my first boom for this type of mic as I just got a condenser mic for the first time too. I use it on my desktop desk and it works just as advertise. It’s pretty solid too and for the price can’t go wrong.

Arrived the next day ordered with Amazon Prime; There are a few key things about this product:
Pro:
1) Sturdy Boom arm – i initially purchased this product to replace another mic stand, which wouldn’t hold up my Blue Spark Mic because of the heavy Mic. This supports it absolutely no problem.
2) The actual Clamp that goes to your table/support has a enlarged clamp area even though a plastic piece. Definitely an Upgrade from the cheap version of most of these stands.
3) 3 Adjust knobs at the right places. -Scissor Boom -Mic Angle Holder Groove -Shock Mount Angle Positioning.
Neutral:
1) Shock Mount is a nice touch, attached and holds my Mic without any screws (Blue Spark) But it is Plastic
2) Mic Knobs and Attachment Piece are Plastic
3) The XLR cable is nicely hidden, normal/decent quality but not Gold Plated.
Pro: For the price, there isn’t much to complain about. More than fair for $2x.xx, arrived in 1 day.
Advised to attach a separate Pop Filter as it doesnt come with it. Might also consider using your original shock mount that came with your Microphone if it’s made with better material (ie not plasic)
