From listening to my test recordings on my pre-production rig, I could immediately distinguish the clarity of the Stedman vs. your general nylon pop filters, which I’ve used for years. I haven’t used it in my main studio rig yet, but I already know it will be an improvement. I really like the sturdiness of the clamp and gooseneck. I also like that you can see the capsule of the mic better, which leads to better placement. I imagine this will be the last pop filter I will need for several years, as it is washable. My only gripe is the price. It’s a little pricier than I’d like to pay for a piece of perforated steel mesh on a gooseneck, but hey, you get what you pay for (so it’s not really a gripe, is it?!). Looks like I’ll be purchasing another for my pre-production rig in the near future.

the mesh pop filter category of screens is superior. to others on the other side of the conversation w whom i start a video call solely to test these features, the vocal sounds of the letter “p” in particular arent abrupt or unpleasant on the other end in terms of harshness when enunciating the consonant. the same could be said about the letter “t.”
kiiiiiind of expensive, tho, especially given how many pop filters are out there for markedly less expensive.

This pop filter is great it Lowe’s down a lot of the sound of accidental blowing in the mic when you say words

I’m a songwriter and use high-end digital recording using my iMac to produce excellent results except those darn “pops” while singing. I’ve tried creating my own filters (hoop and sheer stocking) with mixed results and most of the commercial are based along these lines. This filter uses a screen that diverts the puff of air downward and away from the mic. It really works! The tone is slightly crispy but that is easily fixed in the EQ. Pops are a real pain to fix. These artifacts create clipping which in the analog approach creates some interesting effects but in digital recording sounds awful. Every studio needs a pop filter and this one is worth the price. Also, it is sturdy, connects to my mic stand well, and made in USA.

Is this the “magical saving grace” for your recordings? Probably not. Is it better than fabric or other metal pop filters? Yes! Is it worth the $50+ price tag? Perhaps.

First and foremost: this pop filter DOES work. And its design works as advertised as well! You can physically feel the air being pushed downwards after exiting the filter. However, it doesn’t perfectly capture every plosive every time. Like any filter, a strong enough hit can make it through. Microphone angle/ position, and voice over technique are still required to get the best out of the filter, and save your recordings.

If your fabric filter is causing a noticeable dip in the high end and if your other metal filters aren’t cutting it: give this a shot. The filter is large, but light, and the gooseneck is pro quality, capable of bending to even the strangest of angles.

I had a much more expensive louvered pop filter from a very well respected company, and one day when I went to put it onto the mic stand, the screen just snapped off! I had been holding off on the Stedman because I didn’t know much about the brand but now that I bought this one I am most stoked. This one is slightly larger than the one that broke, the quality of the Stedman is better than what it replaced, and the sound between the two is identical as far as I can hear. I had thought my original was the best pop filter on the planet, but now I know that the Stedman is better; well worth every penny.

(If you’re one of those folks with a wire and nylon pop filter, you really need one of these. These louvered filters sound SO much better than nylon mesh.)

I lost one of the nuts on the pop filter. I shot Stedman an email and they shipped me a couple replacements for free. Shout out to Scott!

On the product itself. it’s rock solid, does what it should and stays where you put it. I’ve used cheaper ones before, and while they work, they’re frustrating to get into positiion and they don’t stay there.

Amazing, I haven’t had to cure any popping on my recordings since I switched to this filter. It really works and works very well. My recordings have been just as pristine without any aggressive explosions. Definitely recommend. Build quality is first class. Looks really nice, and most important, it really does it’s job. Worth the price for sure!
