The stand is well constructed but it was missing the mic clip it was supposed to come with.

This boom stand is different than most in that it does not have a separate boom that screws on the top. The boom is an integral feature that nests inside the main tube when it is not needed. Sort of like a Yamaha cymbal stand boom. Despite having no counterweight, the boom angle adjustment tightens and holds the arm securely. I regularly use this fully extended to put an x-y pair of condensers in a grand piano with no stability problems at all.
The stand is light, and folds compactly, yet is extremely stable. The only thing to watch is that the boom will not swing laterally, if you are a drummer who likes to swing the mic out of the way when it isn’t being used, will not work for this. All other uses, however are exemplary

This is the only stand I use anymore, but I have to replace it every two years like clockwork! Something always breaks on me.

I love these Hercules stands – ideal as it can be a straight stand or a boom stand without having to build anything.

I used this to hold a small microphone in the same exact position for about a year and it never once faltered while I kept it in an old damp basement. It still feels new.

However, after NOT using it for a year I decided to give it to my dad so he can use it as a “flashlight holder” and he LOVES it haha. Super sturdy and incredibly stable and reliable.

    First the positives:
    * Absolutely no saggage of the boom arm. It’s rock solid and stays in place.
    * Quick squeeze adjust mechanism on the vertical part is very convenient. Especially if you switch from sitting to standing a lot, this enables you to quickly adjust the overall height of the mic position without messing with the boom arm angle (which then would require you to readjust the microphone angle). Nice to accommodate that in one motion.
    * I like having only one piece for the boom arm (as opposed to telescoping models), because it’s easier to add a pop screen. The telescoping models have a very thin arm which doesn’t work well with my pop screen.
    * Quick release mic clip is a cool bonus.

    Drawbacks:
    * The boom arm DOES NOT swivel. So you can’t pull it towards yourself and then push it away when you don’t need it. The only way to rotate is to either lift up the whole thing, or loosen the joint where the feet meet the vertical arm so it spins there. But at the EZ grip joint, there is no swivel. Maybe this was necessary for the grip design, I don’t know.
    * In “Boom mode”, you can’t get very close to vertical. In order to go vertical, you need to pull the boom arm out of the elbow and then lower it INTO the vertical arm. So there are a whole bunch of degrees of motion missing: you can’t get closer than 45 degrees to vertical in boom mode.

All in all, though, I’m happy with it! The stability and simple adjustability is the most important part for me.
