I have been struggling to find a way to capture narratives for my videos that don’t have background noise or interference I sometimes get when using wireless mikes. I’ve narrated a couple of videos now with this Sennheiser and the audio is just perfect. I record on my iPhone 12 Pro with the app Voice Record Pro. It has a lot of options and settings to help you get clean recordings with lots of ways to save or share the recording. I highly recommend this mike. For videos going on YouTube or Facebook which don’t require 4k video, I use my iPad Pro’s Center Stage option which makes it look like I have a camera operator following me around.

I wanted this to use only with the ios camera app with the phone attached to a stick for quick run and gun style shoots with no post production. As I already have plenty of high quality recording gear, I didn’t need another audio recorder. I also have several Sennheiser pro mics as well as Apogee products. These companies are great names in sound who, IMHO, didn’t get this quite right yet. I notice a significant noise floor listening through headphones no matter how much I adjust the gain in the suggested app; (there are two). Now being an audiophile, when I say significant, most people probably wouldn’t notice it. But if you’re really into sound, I guarantee you will. If you’re looking to just do audio recording, save yourself $50.00 and buy a Zoom H1 recorder and a Giant Squid lav mic. The sound quality of those two combined are phenomenal for the price point! Now saying all that, I’ll probably keep the ClipMic because of the convenience of it’s small real estate and just use it for YouTube hoping no one watches them with headphones.Update: With all the options of quality audio equipment I have around here, I couldn’t justify keeping this mic. Sent it back the day after this review was written.

This mic is based I believe on the entry-level Sennheiser ME 2 lavalier mic with an added Apogee A/D converter integrated into the cord to support direct recording into lightning port iDevices.Regardless of the gain setting I use in the iOS Apogee MetaRecorder (audio) and Mavis (video/audio) apps, there is a very noticeable level of background hiss even when recording in a quiet environment. If I set the gain very low the hiss is also lower, but then I would need to boost the level in my audio editor which would boost the hiss as well. There are various noise reduction/noise gating plugins in audio editors that might help fix up a hissy recording, but I haven’t tried those yet and it is more work. The product is based on a cheap low-end lav, and that’s the audio performance you get out of it.There’s a similar but much more expensive product (MKE 2 digital) based on the higher-end MKE 2 lav mic which is considered a good quality lav mic. That product might be better but I haven’t tried it.

This is a good quality mic that works well with the Apogee app. You can open the app, set your audio levels and then use the video camera on the iPhone to shoot video and the levels were set by the Apogee app. The microphone is the same as their commercial lapel mics. I use this for interviews and when flying in small planes, I put the mic under the ear cup of my headset and set the levels and it picks up perfect audio from the flight.

I own a ton of Sennheiser wireless gear. I thought I’d try this mic to save connecting my wireless G3s to my phone. Um. The levels from this are so absurdly low that it’s unusable. The iPhone 6 built-in mic is vastly superior. I got it today and it’s going back today. No question. Sennheiser makes wonderful gear, but not this. I wouldn’t use this if it was given to me for free. You will notice that all the other reviews are from people that are part of the Amazon VINE program. They received this item FREE to keep, in exchange for their review, and they seldom leave anything but 5-star reviews because they want to remain in the invite-only VINE program.

Amazingly high quality sound. Had to contact Sennheiser to see if it would work with newer iPhones since the listing here stops at iPhone 6. Folks: good news from Sennheiser: as long as the iOS device has a lightning connector, you can use this mic.

This is a great microphone for iPhone. The Apogee App isn’t as easy, but it is very robust. Just takes some getting used to and then it’s more intuitive.

No complaints at all. Works great. Recorded a video outside, at a food truck park, in a busy tent, with me wearing the mic and another person being interviewed and the sound quality was better than I anticipated it would be. Worth the money.
