I’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks and I can say that for the price, they are spectacular. I ordered two and a friend and I were testing them out while we watched a game. On playback the vocals were rich and crisp, the levels were great and you couldn’t even hear the hockey game going on six feet away.

Knocked one star off for a poor overall design of the product. The mic at the end of the headset works great. Everything else about it could’ve been designed better. The headset is NOT ADJUSTABLE which is a major inconvenience if you’re head is smaller or bigger than the designers supposed heads would be. That’s the only glaring flaw with the design.

But it’s not the only flaw. The mic-arm is adjustable, but not in a very logical way. It doesn’t seem like the designers considered that many people would want the mic off to one side of their mouth and designed it instead to maximize the “nasal exhale” sound interference.

It’s still a phenomenal headset microphone for the price and the audio quality makes up for the ergonomic issues. I would (and will) but another of the same model in the future).

     What I like:
    Good sound
    Can be used hands free
    Construction quality is fine
    Comfortable to wear

    What could be better:
I feel the cable is not too sturdy so I better be careful

I have been using this microphone for about a month with my voice recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional). I’ve been very pleased with the performance – it’s comfortable to wear and accurately recognizes my speech (it’s paired with an Andrea USB soundcard). I previously used a Sennheiser mike, and I like the Audio-Technica better. In my experience, the accuracy of the Audio-Technica is every bit as good as the Sennheiser at less than half the cost, and the connection between the Audio-Technica microphone and the Andrea soundcard is not nearly as temperamental (I had real issues with this with my old Sennheiser mike, which had to be plugged into the Andrea USB soundcard “just right” or the connection failed). The only thing I would note was a surprise with this product is the size of the actual microphone – it’s larger than I expected, and when the foam ball windscreen is placed over the microphone, it’s almost like having a ping-pong ball in front of your mouth. I’m exaggerating (somewhat), but it just took a little getting used to. But I’ve also concluded that if I’m going to wear a headset microphone at work, I’ve pretty much given up on worrying about whether I look like I’m working at Command Control. All that matters is that the product works, and works well – and this certainly fits the bill.

I just used this microphone for a jam. I didn’t get any feedback from it, so the pattern is nice and tight. I see a lot of reviews saying that the band is really tight. In the instructions, it says to wear the band at the base of the neck, and the pads at the temples. I did this, and it fit my head comfortably. I think you’re not supposed to wear the band at the top of your head like a headband.

This microphone is performing very well for Dragon speech recognition software. One tricky part is being a dynamic microphone. Dynamic microphones do not require a bias, do not include an amplifier inside, and produce small amplitude signals. Majority of consumer electronic products have a microphone input that expects an electric condenser microphone, which includes a tiny preamp built into the microphone capsule and produces 10 to 50 times larger amplitude signals compared to this product. So, if you just buy this microphone and plug into whatever equipment you have without paying attention, you may be disappointed. But if your equipment is designed to work well with a dynamic microphone, you will be very happy.

Regarding sound quality, compared within the class of dynamic microphones, the voice lacks the warm quality of a vocal microphone, which uses a larger diaphragm and is not as sharply directional. You might want to use an equalizer to adjust the sound quality to your taste; a flat output from this microphone is thinner than what people expect from an excellent vocal microphone.

One reason to use a dynamic microphone for speech recognition, podcast, voiceover, and other speech communication applications, in spite that most electronic devices expect an electric condenser microphone, is much better suppression of the ambient noise. In particular, this hyper cardioid microphone is sharply directive in its sensitivity. I am very happy with this aspect of this microphone for my application.

I’ve had one of these units for a decade, and it’s served me well, faithfully and without fault. I love that it’s dynamic and cardioid—makes it less fragile and more tonally consistent, and sound quality is very usable for live performance. But I figured it was time to replace, as mine had lost all its foam and probably was losing some fidelity from age and use. I bought this replacement, but the quality is NOT the same as the prior one. It sounded tinny and had lower output. An A-B test against the first mic (during a stage sound check, unfortunately) confirmed it was defective, so I sent it back for a refund. I give three stars because it’s a great mic—when it’s fully functional. But if this is any indication of the QC process, I’d be wary before buying in a situation where it’s time sensitive.

Prefered a wired headset to another wireless set up or a mic stand Haven’t used extensively yet but so far it seems comfortable and works well.
