Introduction

The Tascam iM2X is a compact audio recording solution that fits in your pocket. In this review, we’ll explore its pros and cons, performance, features, and why it’s a valuable tool for content creators and musicians.

Pros

  • Portable Powerhouse: The iM2X is small, lightweight, and highly portable, making it perfect for on-the-go recording.
  • Easy Setup: Setting up the iM2X is a breeze. Simply plug it into your iPhone or iPad and start recording.
  • Crystal-Clear Sound: The dual built-in microphones capture clear, high-quality audio with minimal background noise.

  • Built-in Headphone Jack: Monitor your recordings with real-time audio playback via the headphone jack.
  • Affordable Price: A budget-friendly choice for those seeking quality audio recording without breaking the bank.

Cons

  • Limited Device Compatibility: The iM2X is designed for older iOS devices, so it may not work with the latest models.
  • No Lightning Connector: As it uses the 30-pin connector, you may need an adapter for newer iPhones and iPads.
  • Mono Recording: While it provides clear audio, it records in mono, which may not suit all recording needs.
  • External Accessories Required: To use professional microphones or headphones, additional adapters may be needed.
  • Limited Features: It lacks advanced features, such as XLR inputs, which might be necessary for some users.
  • Size May Affect Handling: Its small size might be challenging to handle for those with larger hands.

Performance

The Tascam iM2X shines when it comes to recording audio on the go. It captures clean, noise-free sound, making it ideal for podcasters, musicians, journalists, and YouTubers. The adjustable gain control allows you to fine-tune your recordings, and the real-time audio monitoring via the built-in headphone jack ensures that you’re always on track.

However, it’s important to note that the iM2X records in mono, which may not suit all users. Additionally, its compatibility with older iOS devices and the need for adapters with newer models can be a minor inconvenience.

The iM2X keeps things simple, focusing on what matters most for audio recording. Its main features include:

  • Dual Built-in Microphones
  • Adjustable Gain Control
  • 30-Pin Connector
  • Headphone Jack

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Tascam iM2X is a great choice for those seeking a mobile and budget-friendly audio recording solution for older iOS devices. However, its limitations in device compatibility, mono recording, and the need for additional accessories might be drawbacks for some users.

Very quiet, perfectly fulfills its function.4 stars because if you use it with an ipod 4, the Tascam microphone blocks the headphone jack.

caused my iphone 4 to hang up during a video recording. There was no way to stop the recording to save it. I have stopped using this device.

The microphone worked well with both my phone & pad. Software is easily downloadable. Or if you prefer, it is compatible with garage band or other IOS apps. I’m an intermediate classical guitar student and my teacher recommended I start recording myself. I did not have the funds to purchase a recording kit. This tiny device really filled that void. Monitoring yourself is a must. I purchased an affordable pair of Sennheiser HD 201’s to help in that area.

the best stereo mic for your iphone 5 or lower… picks up the room and music well.If you want a mono mic, go with the apogee. This mic will capture live music very well.A pro musician using this in a living room for a performance will be mighty surprised how good this sounds.

Worked better than expected. I’m not to familiar with using all the features on the free APP. but it records really well, i used it at a outside concert and the playback was really clear and loud.

This fantastic little microphone plug in has gotten me through some fantastic interviews, as well as giving me good, clean audio from press rooms! I love it!

I love the hardware not the software, it’s to confusing to get the files to my desktop. I use “VoiceRecord” available in the app store instead
