Used the Rode Blimp with the Deadkat on a shoot in the desert. The wind was blowing so hard that we had to shield our eyes while doing the scene. There was no expectation that the audio was going to be usable for those scenes. We checked the audio last night… very clean! Unbelievable results. Worth every cent.

Must have for mounting and protecting your mic.

Used it for the first time on a windy day. We’ve been having too much wind bleed through the deadcat on our shotgun mikes. We broke out the brand new blimp and hooked it all up. The guy running sound used the word “amazing” at least twice.
Would you be able to, in fact, hear a flatulent frog in a hurricane? Probably, let me know how that works out.

Great, lightweight, and durable. I abuse my equipment pretty good and this BLIMPR is no exception. It is tough and literally bounces back from hits, spills, and bangs! It comes with a windshield but I also bought the “deadwombat” cover that fits and works well.

I recently post about this and I made a mistake and gave it a 1 start. It was meant for another product. This product is all it’s hyped up to be!

I recently got to use this blimp for the first time on an outdoor shoot and – WOW – it completely exceeded expectations. The frame is incredibly lightweight and easy to assemble. The wind and ambient noise reduction were both stellar! The dead cat cover is thick and seems to shed less than cheaper alternatives. A minor benefit but seemed worth mentioning. Definitely a great value for those looking to build out their audio kit!

If you are serious about doing outdoor video, you need this. While Youtube has videos of DIY versions, nothing can come close because both the mounting system and the exterior, wind-noise damping decrease or eliminate handling and atmospheric noise without decreasing the quality of the audio. Fairly expensive? Yes. Thoroughly worthwhile? YES!

Very sturdy and reliable for field sound. Just worried a little about the wombat(deadcat) losing a lot of fur.

You’re only reading this because you desperately want an honest review to see if this RODE Blimp can handle wind exceptionally well. WELL, let me tell you that it is beyond my expectation.
The other day I was shooting a video after a storm had passed and the winds were still hovering around 20mph. Once I put on the ‘Dead Wombat’ the wind noise was literally cut down to nothing. At first I thought it wasn’t working because shotgun mic (NTG2) was picking up the leaves falling and I thought it was wind….it was just that clear!
The most important factor of this package is the DEAD WOMBAT (which is included and thank you RODE for doing that). This is and will be the only thing you have to stop the wind and it works flawlessly. You will need this in any high wind situation.
All in all, if you’re looking for a wind muff, a high quality shotgun mic holder or just a better (or the best) way to cut out the wind from your production, I cannot emphasize this next statement enough….BUY THIS.

Loving the Rode Blimp! We’re using this with a Rode NTG3 mic in the field for a documentary. It’s sturdy, collapsable, and has been working out great for us.
