Introduction
Blue The Pop Filter is a must-have accessory for content creators and audio enthusiasts. In this comprehensive review, we’ll explore its design, effectiveness, ease of use, and overall value in improving your audio recording experience.
Pop Filter Design and Build Quality
The Pop Filter boasts a simple yet effective design. The flexible gooseneck allows for easy positioning, and the sturdy clamp ensures a secure attachment to your microphone stand. The durable construction ensures longevity, making it a reliable tool for long-term use.
Setup and Compatibility
Putting up The Pop Filter is easy. It has a clamp that fits well on most microphone stands, making it work with different setups. You can adjust the arm to position it just right for the best performance when you’re recording.
Effectiveness in Reducing Plosive Sounds
The primary function of The Pop Filter is to minimize plosive sounds (such as ‘p’ and ‘b’ sounds) during vocal recordings. In this aspect, it excels. The double-layered mesh effectively diffuses airflow, reducing the impact of plosive sounds without compromising the clarity of your voice.
Ease of Cleaning
Maintaining The Pop Filter is hassle-free. The mesh material is easy to clean, and the detachable design allows for quick and convenient maintenance. This feature ensures that your filter remains in top condition, consistently delivering high performance.
Pop Filter Pros:
- Simple and effective design
- Sturdy build quality
- Easy setup and compatibility
- Excellent in reducing plosive sounds
- Adjustable and flexible gooseneck for precise positioning
- Easy to clean and maintain
Pop Filter Cons:
- Limited color options
- The clamp may not fit exceptionally thick microphone stands
Conclusion
The Blue Pop Filter is an important tool for people who record audio. It’s easy to use and works well in stopping harsh sounds. Adding it to your recording setup is a good idea because it helps make your audio recordings better. Even though it has a few small issues, the Pop Filter is a useful and affordable way to enhance your audio quality.

This is a fantastic pop filter. An issue I’ve experience with a couple of pop filters is that they tend to mute the sibilants too much, so the “S” sounds as if you’re wearing braces. That’s not the case with “THE POP”. Sibilants and “T”s sound very well defined, while at the same time preventing unwanted extra energy with these sounds.
This pop filter keeps all the natural detail, texture and nuance of your voice while at the same time preventing popping sounds from developing.
The goose-neck is very sturdy, stable and very flexible. I don’t have any issues with it mounted on the excellent Heil boom arm or the desk stand included with the SNOWBALL mic.
The mesh is actually a two-layer design, both made out of metal. There is a fine metal mesh laid on top larger patterned metal mesh. So your mic is well protected.
“THE POP” works extremely well with the SNOWBALL usb microphone and other usb microphones I’ve tried.
I’ve tried a few pop filters, and this one is simply the best design and the best performer.

This filter is great! It looks classy, works very well, sounds good, and is very sturdy. As with all Blue products the quality is great, and it works perfectly with my Blue Yeti mic. People have been complaining about how it doesn’t attach to the yeti, but that is false. Blue expects you to be using this with a mic stand, so it doesn’t fit EASILY on the Yeti. However, it is also intended to clamp onto the Yeti’s frame. I wouldn’t do this though, because it can scratch up your frame when you tighten it. I prefer a different method, the one shown in this video:
[…]
This method attaches the filter to your mic in the most sturdy way possible, and you don’t have to scratch or modify anything. You even end up with a spare part. So I recommend this for anyone who needs a nice filter, and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone with a Yeti. If you are doing any voice work with your Yeti, you will need a pop filter, and nothing else will work and look this good. If you have 30ish bucks to spare, pick this up!

First of all, let me say, from some of the pictures I have seen posted of this Pop Filter, when put on a Yeti mic stand, the clamp will fit on the stand as pictured. This is a design flaw, not with the Pop Filter, but with the Yeti stand, as this filter has been around long before the Yeti came out. Blue, or a clever do it yourself person, could easily fix it, by drilling more holes into the side of the clamp mount. Then you could move it forward and simply screw the side mic mount screws into the stand. There are many great pictures of other clever fixes, as well. Since I have mine hanging upside down, on a boom stand attached to a Blue Radius Shock mount, this is not an issue for me, but I will say it is a problem Blue should fix. (I have written an addendum on the bottom, for a great fix.) Other brands of filters will give the same, if not more problems. I am not going to knock any stars off, because I’m reviewing the filter itself, which is superb and how it works for me.
Now for the meat. This is a studio grade, high quality product, all metal, except for the two tightening knobs. The dual screen design eliminates any plosives, P’s and B’s for example, better than any screen I have used so far. This is especially true when, the screen distance is about an inch from the Yeti capsule screen, and you are 4 to 6 inches away from the unit itself, which I have found to be the Yeti’s sweet spot in the Cardioid pattern. Next the silk screened Blue logo also helps you find the sweet spot, if you place it in front of the capsule area. I like the idea of a metal screen, especially if you are transporting it, you won’t have to worry about snagging,or runs, as you do with the cloth filters. Speaking of old cloth filters, I have a Neumann, which is about 12 years old, a very nice screen as well, but it does not cut the pops as well as the Blue, especially if you get closer to the mic and screen. Also when reading copy, or maybe music, I can see over and through the Blue filter, much better than the round 6 & 1/4 inch jobs Like the Neumann. You can contort the neck of the filter in any position easily, cheaper filters I have used in the past, will creep back into unwanted positions, the Blue behaves. The Blue Pop is absolutely transparent, no muffling, as with foam filters, The curved design of the Blue Filter also protects the sides from plosives and possible proximity errors of a poorly placed screen or none at all. The screen is a solid build, as are all of the Blue products I have used so far. It also fits the look of the Yeti and Radius Shock Mount like a glove. Surprisingly, I paid a little over $30.00 on Amazon, a real bargain in my mind, for such high quality. This filter is for all the Blue Microphones by the way, and I am going to use it on my entire collection of mics!
10/7/11 Addendum
If you need to use the Yeti as a table top mic, especially if you are using a shock mount and pop filter (any brand), I would suggest buying a
Samson SAMD5 MD5 Desktop Mic Stand
, which works great for this set up!

This is a high quality metal pop filter which does exactly what you could expect from it. This pop filter is a hundred times better than a DIY pantyhose/clothes hanger contraption and ten times better than your average guitar center bargain pop filter. The biggest issue I can see is that the gooseneck FEELS loose. It has not yet actually been a problem, it just seems to have a little more give than I was expecting, but does not droop or sag. As it gets a bit of use, however, the gooseneck may end up being a problem.
The biggest issue people seem to have with this pop filter come only from those who buy it with BLUE’s most popular budget microphone, the Yeti (or the Yeti pro). This problem is that the pop filter is designed for mic stands, not the desk mount that comes with the Yeti. This is true of every pop filter ever made, however, and is not indicative of product quality. Blue didn’t make this to fit the Yeti stand. It will fit on one quite easily if you think about it, but it is not designed to. If you look at the main picture of the item, you will see its intended use: Attached to a mic stand, either a floor or a table mount will do. The clip is universal.
Also of note, it was much larger than I though it was going to be. This thing easily shields the entirety of the oversize yeti microphones, and should work well with anything you use it with.
Pros: High quality metal construction, Curved for maximum pop-shielding-ness, Large surface area, WORKS
Cons: High list price (Don’t pay full MSRP for it)

I wanted this because I liked the look. Not only is it not practical, but very hard to connect AND it keeps falling down ALL THE TIME. Such a waste of money.
